Mlais M7 vs Yu Yureka Plus : 5.5-inch octa core goodness for under for under $190

Yu Yureka Plus vs Mlais M7 photoThe chances of you knowing the two companies that are on show today are very slim. Bet you have not heard of Yu and Mlais before right? But both of them have really amazing products and I can’t wait to let you know about it.
Never heard of the name Yu before? What about Micromax then? Well, Yureka is Micromax’s sub-division that was created for the purpose of partnering with Cyanogen community that is famous for modding and Yureka Plus is the ‘baby’ from that marriage. Elsewhere, very little is known about Mlais. And for all that we know; they are from Shenzhen, China.
Who cares, as long as they have great products that are of quality for us and nice pricing to boot. You don’t have to be well-known or established to come out with an amazing piece of hardware, do you?
So let’s take a closer look on both of them. On the surface, the Yureka Plus can be considered as an updated version of the earlier Yureka; which is their maiden release earlier this year. It is a bit thinner and lighter as compared to the previous version, which is a nice improvement. Then there’s the Gorilla Glass 3 which lends extra protection to the smartphone.
As for M7, since it is the first time we heard of them; one look and you can see that is your average-sized device with a 149.5 x 76.8 x 8.6 mm measurement. But the cool advantage that it has over the Yureka Plus is its metal body finish. It certainly adds a touch of elegance and to top it off; there’s also the Gorilla Glass 3 available as well.

The M7 might not have the slim body that you want, but at least it looks much better in metal as compared to Yureka Plus.
Screen-wise, the Yureka Plus will now be sporting a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~401 ppi pixel density which is a nice upgrade from only a High Definition resolution previously. You will be able to see more clearly and a lot sharper now.
That’s where the M7 somehow is still stuck in time with its 5.5-inch High Definition IPS capacitive touchscreen. The high definition resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels doesn’t do justice to its huge screen. Well, at least the IPS screen help to make it slightly better and you should be able to share the screen with a friend or two.
Yureka Plus has a really strong advantage in terms of screen, and the difference is clear for everyone to see, especially for a screen this big. Nothing beats a Full HD or Quad HD for this kind of size.
Now let’s move on to the hardware side of things. Under the hood of the Yureka Plus, it will be having the Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 at the helm, Octa-core processor with a Quad-core 1.7 GHz Cortex-A53 & Quad-core 1.0 GHz Cortex-A53 processor , Adreno 405 graphics and 2GB RAM.
Meanwhile on the M7, it is equipped with the Mediatek MTK6752 chipset, Octa-core 1.7 GHz processor, ARM Mali-T760 graphics and 3GB RAM on-hand.
The slightly faster processor and the additional 1GB RAM does put the M7 slightly ahead when it comes to performance and benchmarks. But in real-life environment, you won’t be able to see huge difference between the two. There is more than enough firepower for both of them to run all of the latest apps and games that are out there.
Now let’s move on to the camera side of things. On the Yureka Plus, it will have the same 13MP-5MP setup as its predecessor. But still, it is more than capable of producing good-looking images. The combination feels just right, and you will be spending lots of time taking photos along your photo adventure.
Meanwhile on the M7, even though it also has the same 13MP-5MP setup; it is slightly more capable because it uses Sony’s IMX135 stacked sensor. The 6-element lens, chroma flash lets you take amazing pictures; whether it is in the dark, while in motion or under any situation. On the secondary camera, don’t think it will be that much difference, though.
And for you to take lots and lots of pictures, you are going to need a good storage to back you up. Both of them have the same amount of internal storage, which is 16GB. Only on the expansion slot do they differentiate just a little bit. With the Yureka Plus, you can upgrade up to a maximum of 32GB; whereas for the M7, you can add up to a maximum of 64GB.
As for the battery department, the difference is negligible as well. The Yureka Plus will be using the Li-Po 2500 mAh battery; meanwhile the M7 uses a 2600mAh removable lithium polymer battery. Both of them should be more than capable of supplying at least a day’s of usage if you’re not a heavy user.
Although the Yureka Plus will be employing the Cyanogen mod as part of its software, for now it is still stuck at Android KitKat 4.4.4. But it should be only a matter of time before Cyanogen will release its version of the latest Lollipop 5.0.
Elsewhere on the M7, with Android Lollipop 5.0 at the heart of it right out of the box; you can be sure of getting all the features and improved performance that comes along with the latest operating system.
Finally, both of them do have 4G LTE connectivity and dual sim capability as well. But the M7 ups their game by providing a fingerprint scanned which is normally found on more expensive devices. That’s a huge plus point on its own.
As we’ve gone through bit-by-bit, it seems that Mlais M7 is the better overall smartphone. If you can live with its rather a mismatch High Definition resolution. Other than that, the metal finish, slightly faster hardware, better camera, newer OS and a fingerprint scanner makes for a really good offering. However, it does cost $30 more to have those advantages. The only catch is that it is from a relatively unknown manufacturer. I’m supposed you can live with that, no?
Yu Yureka Plus is currently available for $9,999 Indian Rupee or ~$159 USD. It is available in Moondust Gray and Alabaster White.
Mlais M7 is said to be available in China for approximately ~$189.99 USD and is available in black and white.
