Mlais M7 vs Asus Pegasus Plus 2: flying high with these two awesome 5.5-inch smartphones with octa-core processor, 3GB RAM and great camera; yours for below $200

Mlais M7 vs Asus Pegasus Plus 2 photoWe got ourselves a bargain here today, as both Mlais M7 and Asus Pegasus Plus 2 is set to soar high in the smartphone industry with pretty amazing specs.

You might be forgiven for never hearing of the name Mlais. In fact, even a quick check on their website reveals very little. Other than the fact that they are a company from Shenzhen, China. But who cares right? If they can produce something up its sleeves to go against all the big boys in town?
But if you never heard of Asus before, then too bad for you. They are very strong in consumer goods, particularly in the computer industry. The smartphone is slowly becoming part of their core business as well. The Taiwanese company has already launched Asus Pegasus just recently in May 2015, and now the excitement is building up once the word that Pegasus 2 Plus is leaked to the outside world. The Pegasus is considered to be a huge bargain with its 5-inch HD screen, Quad-core processor, 2GB RAM and 8MP-5MP camera; all for a price of $129 USD.

Within months, it is set to be taken over by Pegasus Plus 2.
Enough of the introduction for both of them, now let’s get down and dirty shall we? The M7 is your average-sized device with a 149.5 x 76.8 x 8.6 mm measurement. But with a metal body that adds a touch of elegance and even then, there’s the Gorilla Glass 3 which lends its fair share of protection. They go out of their way to equip the smartphone with these two.
As for the Pegasus 2 Plus, the release date is still a couple of months to go. Hence its body and weight is not yet known, but expect it to be slim and lightweight as per its predecessor.
The M7 is sporting a 5.5-inch High Definition IPS capacitive touchscreen that does feel a little bit like a mismatch. The high definition resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels doesn’t do justice to its huge screen. But at least the IPS screen does help to make it slightly better, and you should be able to share the screen with a friend or two with no issues at all.
No worries with the Pegasus Plus 2 though, as the smartphone will be sporting a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD screen with 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~441 ppi pixel density. It will make for some great viewing and browsing of the internet. Plus it will make a great case to share the screen with a friend or two as it has a wide viewing angle and images will stay as clear as it can be.
Clearly as you can see, the Pegasus Plus 2 is much better in terms of the screen resolution. You need a high resolution for a screen this big.
Performance-wise, we can see that the M7 is having the Mediatek MTK6752 chipset, Octa-core 1.7 Ghz 64-bit processor, ARM Mali-T760 graphics, and 3GB RAM on-hand. Elsewhere on the Pegasus 2 Plus, there will be the Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 chipset paired with an Octa-Core processor capable of supporting 64-bit, Adreno 405 graphics and 3GB RAM.
Both should perform similarly well and the 3GB RAM does help a lot when you’re doing a lot of multitasking. There is more than enough firepower for the both of them, and surely you won’t face any issues running all the latest apps and games that are out there in the market.

As for the camera side of things, the M7 is blessed with a 13 Megapixel primary camera that is supported by Sony’s IMX135 stacked sensor. The 6-element lens, chroma flash lets you take amazing pictures; whether it is in the dark, while in motion or under any situation. Then there’s the 5 Megapixel secondary camera that lets you take good-looking selfies to be posted to your favorite social media. It is shaping up to be a very capable point-and-shoot camera indeed.
Meanwhile for the Pegasus Plus 2, it will have a 13 Megapixel primary camera with 4128 x 3096 pixels, autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR and panorama. Then there’s the upgraded 8 Megapixel secondary camera to cater for all your selfies needs.
Certainly the two of them are great, but the 8MP selfie camera on the Pegasus Plus 2 nudges it just in front slightly. Great if you love to take lots of photos, as the quality is high indeed.
By taking lots of photos and / or videos, you’re going to need a good amount of storage to back you up on your photo-taking adventure. The M7 doesn’t disappoint with its 16GB internal storage that can be further upgraded to a maximum of 64GB via the available microSD expansion slot.
Whereas for the Pegasus Plus 2, it will be equipped with double the amount of storage which is 32GB. And if that is not enough, you can always turn to its microSD slot for your expansion needs.
Both the M7 and Pegasus Plus 2 will be running on the very latest Android Lollipop, so no worries there.
When it comes to battery, we can see that the M7 is powered by a 2600mAh removable lithium polymer battery that should be more than capable of supplying at least a day’s of usage particularly if you’re not a heavy user. As compared to the Pegasus 2 Plus which has slightly higher juice with its Li-Ion 3030 mAh battery. This should ensure that can have at least a day or two of battery life which is just enough to go about your daily activities.

Coming from a relatively unknown Chinese manufacturer, we surely don’t know what to expect from Mlais. But judging by what we saw on paper at least, there are a lot of good things going on for the M7. Perhaps our friend in China would be able to release it out to the international market, for us to test it out personally. At the moment, we can only judge things on what they seem to be.
Elsewhere for Asus, the heavy burden that comes with the name Pegasus Plus 2 is there for all to see. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that it has the necessary specs and the price to go with, to carry the Taiwanese flag flying up high in the smartphone market. If it is priced right, surely it will be a big hit worldwide.
The Mlais M7 is said to be available in China for approximately ~$189.99 USD and is available in black and white.
The Asus Pegasus 2 Plus will be available sometime in this Q3 2015 although the price has yet to be revealed. If we take into consideration the first Pegasus smartphone, it should be not far off the $129 USD price tag that it previously carries. It would be available in Rose Gold and white.
